Our November event will be a small drinks party in a private room belonging to The Imperial Lounge Aqua (on the 17th floor of the Imperial Hotel), at which we will be able to accommodate only 20 people.

The attendance fee of 10,000 yen includes free flow of drinks and a small selection of food.

Members who wish to attend should contact Tim Minton (t.minton[at]camford[dot]org) by Monday, 20th November. Members are welcome to invite one guest each.

30th October (Mon, 18:30 - 21:00): Seated Dinner at The Tokyo Club in honour of Professor Roger Goodman

The October event will be a seated dinner at The Tokyo Club to welcome Professor Roger Goodman to Japan. Professor Goodman is the Warden of St Antony’s College Oxford and Nissan Professor of Modern Japanese Studies; he has kindly agreed to give a short after-dinner talk at this event.

Members who wish to attend should contact Tim Minton (t.minton[at]camford[dot]org) by Thursday, 26th October. The attendance fee is 8,000 yen (payable in advance), and members are welcome to invite one guest each.

21st September, 2023 (Thu, 19:00 - 18:30): Late Summer Party, British Embassy

Our main September event is a Late Summer Party to be held on Thursday, September 21st (19:00 – 20:30) at the British Ambassador’s Residence and hosted by the Society’s President and British Ambassador to Japan, HE Ms Julia Longbottom CMG.

Applications to attend will be accepted on a first-come-first-served basis, and guests are, at the behest of the Embassy, limited to members’ spouses or partners. Members who wish to attend should apply by email to Tim Minton (t.minton[at]camford[dot]org) by September 8th.

6th June, 2023 (Tuesday, 18:30 - 21:00): Seated Dinner at Ark Hills Club

In June, we will be revisiting one of our favourite venues, Ark Hills Club, where we be holding a dinner in honour of visiting Oxford Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Development & External Affairs, Professor David Gann CBE.

The attendance fee is 8,000 yen for members and 10,000 yen for guests (payable in advance), which covers a seated meal and drinks in the Continental Dining Room. Members are welcome to invite one guest each.

This event is already full, but members may apply to have themselves added to the waiting list.

Our first event of the year will be a seated dinner at The Tokyo Club on St Valentine's Day. Singles are, of course, welcome!

Memorial Meeting (偲ぶ会) for Mr Teruhisa Nakamura, The Tokyo Club, Tuesday, 2nd April (18:00 - 20:00)

Mr Teruhisa (Terry) Nakamura, C&O’s previous Representative Honorary Secretary, passed away at the age of 86 on February 12th. His funeral was attended only by family members, but we will be holding a memorial event for him at The Tokyo Club on Tuesday, 2nd April (18:00 – 20:00). Drinks and a light buffet will be served.

The attendance fee is 4,000 yen per person, payable in advance. If you would like to attend, please contact Tim Minton (t.minton[at]camford[dot]org) by Sunday, 31st March.

Seated Dinner at the International House of Japan, Tuesday, 16th April, 2024 (18:30 - 21:00)

Our April 2024 event will take the form of a seated dinner at a regular venue of ours, the International House of Japan. We are delighted to welcome Professor Dani Prieto-Alhambra (Professor of Pharmaco- and Device Epidemiology; Section Lead, Health Data Sciences, Botnar Research Centre; University of Oxford) to this event, especially as he has kindly agreed to say a few words after dinner.

Triennial General Meeting and Seated Dinner at The Tokyo Club, Thursday, 16th May, 2024 (18:00 - 21:00)

Starting at 18:00, the Society's 2024 Triennial General Meeting will be chaired by Mr Emil Levendoğlu, Minister and Deputy Head of Mission, British Embassy. It will be followed by a seated dinner at 19:00.

Attendance is limited to C&O members, who should register via the link given in the notice distributed to the membership on 18th April. Enquiries may be addressed to Tim Minton by email (t.minton[at]camford[dot]org).

Early Summer Party at Tsunamachi Mitsui Club, Wednesday, 12th June, 2024 (18:30 - 21:00)

Our Early Summer Party will be held this year at Tsunamachi Mitsui Club (www.tsunamachimitsuiclub.co.jp/), a private club for senior members of the Mitsui Group, which is housed in an ornate 1913 mansion designed by British architect Josiah Conder (1852 – 1920). It was originally built as the Mitsui family’s guesthouse.

The attendance fees are 12,500 yen for members and 17,500 yen for guests. Those who wish to attend should register via the Google Form link distributed to members on May 22nd. Please address any enquiries to Tim Minton (t.minton[at]camford[dot]org]).
