In April 2025, the Cambridge & Oxford Society of Japan returned to Oenophilia in Meguro. This gourmet “Wine Dining” restaurant was first visited in September 2024 and proved so popular that a second event was arranged. It was also the first Society event held since Naoko Miyazaki-san succeeded Tim Minton as President during the 120th Anniversary celebrations.
On the evening of Saturday, 22nd March 2025, 158 members and guests of The Cambridge & Oxford Society gathered at the Imperial Hotel to celebrate the Society’s 120th anniversary.
Now well into the second century since the historic founding of The Cambridge & Oxford Society, Tokyo, on the evening of Saturday 28th March, over 130 members and guests gathered at Hotel Okura for the Society’s 110th Anniversary Dinner celebration.
As at the previous dinners for the Society’s 100th Anniversary and Cambridge University 900th Anniversary, we were again honoured by the presence of HIH Princess Takamado (Girton, Cambridge 1972).
On Thursday, 10th July, the Cambridge & Oxford Society and the Harvard Club held a joint party at the beautiful Tsunamachi Mitsui Club in the Mita area of Tokyo. It was Camford’s third time in this handsome building overlooking a large period garden that slopes steeply downhill almost to the boundary wall of Keio University.
On Wednesday, 25th September, we were very kindly invited to the exclusive Mitsubishi Club in Marunouchi.
A beautiful calm early Spring day at the venerable Hodogaya Country Club greeted the sixteen C&O players on Saturday March 23rd. This time we were graced with a guest – David Jones from the London wine merchant Berry Brothers, as well as the welcome participation of one of our lady members, Carolyn Macdonald. Everyone was delighted to welcome back to active golfing duties Terry Nakamura, who acquitted himself extremely well on the day.
On 5th February 2013, fifty-two members of the Cambridge & Oxford Society — including two of our most senior members, Hugh Wilkinson (King’s, Cambridge 1946) and Doreen Simmons (Girton, Cambridge 1950) — together with seventeen guests, attended a dinner at the Tokyo Club to welcome our newly appointed President, HE Mr Tim Hitchens (Christ’s, Cambridge 1980), and his wife, Sara (Christ’s, Cambridge 1981).
The 2012 C&O Autumn Golf Outing was held on 20th October under beautiful, sunny autumn skies — a welcome relief after the unusually hot summer experienced that year.
The tournament took place at Fuji OGM Ichihara Golf Club. Fortunately, traffic on the Aqua Line was light that morning, allowing all participants to arrive without the usual frustrations of a long weekend drive.
Mr Teruhisa Nakamura (Worcester, Oxford 1964) retired from the C&O Committee at the Triennial General Meeting held on 20th April 2012, having devoted himself tirelessly to the day-to-day running of the Society for more than 30 years.
Hodogaya Country Club once again hosted the Cambridge & Oxford Society for our Spring tournament. This splendid venue — just a short thirty-minute drive down the Tomei — continues to be our favoured “home” ground.
