Farewell dinner for Tim and Sara Hitchens, International House of Japan, Wednesday, November 23

To mark the end of Tim Hitchens’s term as British Ambassador to Japan (and as C&O President) at the end of this year, we will hold a seated dinner on November 23rd (a national holiday) to express our thanks to Tim and his wife, Sara, for their wholehearted support of the Society over the last four years, and to bid them farewell.

Drinks will be served at 18:30, and dinner will start at 1900. The attendance fee is 8,000 yen (subsidized), and the dress code is jacket and tie.

Members are welcome to invite one guest each to this event. If you would like to attend, please contact Tim Minton (t.minton[at]camford[dot]org) by Saturday, November 19th.

Our Christmas Party will be held as usual in the Kabayama Room (樺山ルーム).

If you would like to attend this event, please apply to Tim Minton (t.minton[at]camford[dot]org) by Friday, December 16th. Members are welcome to invite one guest each (no restriction in the case of immediate family members).

Buffet Dinner at Kojunsha, Wednesday, March 23, 2016 (19:00 - 21:00)

This will be our third visit to Kojunsha, a private club founded in 1880 by Yukichi Fukuzawa. Our event will be held in the Chu-Shokudo. Kojunsha is located in Ginza 6-chome; directions will be sent to those who sign up.

Members are welcome to invite one guest each (more than one in the case of family members).

This event will be attended by the President of the Cambridge Union, James Hutt (Pembroke), and the Debating Officerof the Cambridge Union, Muhammad Asadullah Khan (Trinity).

Attendance fee: 7,500 yen (payable in advance)
Dress code: jacket and tie

We are pleased to announce that the new British Ambassador to Japan, HE Paul Madden CMG (Gonville & Caius Cambridge 1977), has kindly accepted the Presidency of C&O. To welcome Paul and his wife, Sarah, to Japan, we are holding a seated 5-course dinner at The Tokyo Club on February 16th: reception and aperitifs from 18:30, dinner from 19:00, after-dinner drinks.

The main event for March will be a casual buffet dinner at Trader Vic’s in Hotel New Otani (www.newotani.co.jp/en/tokyo/restaurant/vics/), where we have booked the Boathouse Bar for our exclusive use. Join us for an evening of plentiful international cuisine in a tropical atmosphere. One Trader Vic’s original cocktail on arrival (normal free flow of beer, wine, spirits and soft drinks thereafter), and a special selection of three desserts from Hotel New Otani’s patisserie Satsuki included.

Our main May event, the annual Early Summer Party, will be held on Thursday, May 18th (18:30 – 21:00) at the British Ambassador’s Residence and hosted by the Society’s President and British Ambassador to Japan, HE Paul Madden CMG.

Applications to attend will be accepted only via the online form available at the URL distributed by email to C&O members on April 17th, but enquiries may be addressed to Tim Minton (t.minton[at]camford[dot]org).

April 4 (Tue): Visit to the “David Bowie is” Exhibition (16:00 ~) and Seated Dinner at NOZ by T.Y. Farm (19:30 ~)

The main event for April will be a visit to the David Bowie exhibition being held at Warehouse Terrada G1 Building in Higashi Shinagawa (http://davidbowieis.jp/en/) followed by a seated dinner at a brand new casual restaurant called NOZ by T.Y. Farm, which is about three minutes’ walk from the exhibition venue.

The exhibition “David Bowie is” was originally created by the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and Tokyo is the only city in Asia to host it. One free drink is available on production of the entrance ticket at the venue’s café. NOZ by T.Y. Farm (https://www.facebook.com/terra.cafe.bar1220/) serves fresh vegetables from its own farm in Ome, and the mainly Italian menu for our dinner will consist of salad, two or three appetizers, a main course and a dessert, as well as the usual free flow of wine, beer and soft drinks.
