Our first main event of 2016 will be a relaxing evening of delicious food and wine at Armani Ristorante Wine Lounge in Ginza (Armani Ginza Tower 10F, 5-5-4 Ginza, Chuo-ku, Tokyo 104-0061).

Attendance fee: 7,000 yen (includes buffet and all drinks)
Payment is required in advance; account details will be sent to those who apply to attend. No refunds for those who sign up but do not attend, or who cancel after the closing date (Feb. 25).

Dress code: smart casual

Dr Barak Kushner, Cambridge University Lecturer in Japanese History and Fellow of Corpus Christi College, will deliver a talk on the following subject:

What happened to Japanese soldiers in postwar China and
what did the Chinese do to them?

The talk will be followed by a Q&A session and drinks.

Summer Buffet at Tsunamachi Mitsui Club, July 5, 2013 (18:30 - 21:00)

Our main July event is a Summer Buffet on Friday, 5th July at Tsunamachi Mitsui Club (www.tsunamachimitsuiclub.co.jp/), a private club for senior members of the Mitsui Group, which is housed in a spectacular 1913 mansion designed by British architect Josiah Conder (1852 – 1920). It was originally built as the Mitsui family’s guesthouse. This will be our second visit to the Club. The first was last September, when we held a farewell party there for Sir David and Lady Warren.

To give members a chance to view the extensive gardens before it goes dark, the reception desk will open at 18:00. Please note, however, that drinks will not be served until 18:30.

Attendance fees: 8,000 yen (members), 10,000 yen (guests)

Dress code: jacket and tie

Triennial General Meeting, The Tokyo Club, Wednesday June 24, 2015 (18:00 - 21:00)

The Triennial General Meeting will be chaired by our President, Mr Tim Hitchens. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. and is likely to last 30 or 40 minutes. It will be followed by a seated dinner starting around 7 o’clock, the cost of which will be subsidised by the Society for those who attend the GM. Drinks will be served in the interim. This event is for members only.

Members who would like to attend this event should contact Tim Minton (t.minton[at]camford[dot]org) by Friday, 19th June. Members may, of course, attend the General Meeting without attending the dinner (and without charge), but to comply with Tokyo Club’s rules we still require advance notice of intention to attend. Members may also opt to attend the dinner without attending the GM, but anyone who chooses this option will be charged the full per-person cost of the dinner.

Attendance fees (to be paid in advance; account details will be sent to those attending): GM only: 0 yen, GM + Dinner: 5,000 yen, Dinner only: 8,000 yen
No-show/late cancellation charges will be 8,000 yen (except for those who sign up for the GM only).

We are pleased to announce that Sir David Warren’s successor as British Ambassador to Japan, HE Mr Tim Hitchens (Christ’s Cambridge 1980), has kindly agreed to succeed Sir David as President of C&O as well. To welcome Mr Hitchens and his wife, Sara (Christ’s Cambridge 1980), to Japan, we are holding a seated 5-course dinner at The Tokyo Club on February 5th: reception and aperitifs from 18:30, dinner from 19:00, after-dinner drinks.
