This will be our third visit to Kojunsha, a private club founded in 1880 by Yukichi Fukuzawa. Our event will be held in the Chu-Shokudo. Kojunsha is located in Ginza 6-chome; directions will be sent to those who sign up.

Members are welcome to invite one guest each (more than one in the case of family members).

This event will be attended by the President of the Cambridge Union, James Hutt (Pembroke), and the Debating Officerof the Cambridge Union, Muhammad Asadullah Khan (Trinity).

Attendance fee: 7,500 yen (payable in advance)
Dress code: jacket and tie

Buffet Dinner at Tsunamachi Mitsui Club, Tuesday, May 10, 2016 (18:30 - 21:00)

Our main May event is a Summer Buffet Party on Tuesday, May 10th at Tsunamachi Mitsui Club (www.tsunamachimitsuiclub.co.jp/), a private club for senior members of the Mitsui Group, which is housed in a spectacular 1913 mansion designed by British architect Josiah Conder (1852 – 1920). It was originally built as the Mitsui family’s guesthouse. This will be our fourth visit to the Club.

To give participants a chance to view the extensive gardens before it goes dark, the reception desk will open at 18:00. Please note, however, that drinks will not be served until 18:30.

Members are welcome to invite one guest each.

Attendance fees (subsidised by the Society): 8,000 yen (members), 10,000 yen (guests)
Dress code: jacket and tie

Party for New Oxbridge Students, Armani Ristorante Wine Lounge, July 7, 2016 (18:30 – 21:00)

The main purpose of this event is to give new students (both undergraduates and graduates) going up to Oxford or Cambridge for the 2016/2017 academic year an opportunity to meet members of The Cambridge & Oxford Society and, in the process, gain a few useful tips on how to prepare for the experience. C&O members and new students will be able to chat informally while enjoying drinks and excellent Italian cuisine from an extensive buffet selection.

The party will be held at the fashionable Armani Ristorante Wine Lounge in Ginza (Armani Ginza Tower 10F, 5-5-4 Ginza, Chuo-ku, Tokyo 104-0061; http://www.armani-ristorante.jp/ristorante/shopinfo.html) and is open only to members of C&O and students starting at Oxford or Cambridge in the autumn of 2016, although members and new students alike are welcome to invite one guest each. Please note that we will check with the universities the bone fides of all non-C&O members who apply to attend.

Rowing on Sagamiko, Hiking on Mount Takao, Dining at Ukai Toriyama, Saturday, October 1st, 2016 (all day)

The first main event of the second half (September to December) consists of three separate activities: rowing on Sagamiko, hiking on Mount Takao, and dining at Ukai Toriyama. Needless to say, it is not compulsory to participate in all three!

An outline of each activity can be found in the notice sent to members on September 15th. If you would like to take part, please contact Tim Minton (t.minton[at]camford[dot]org) September 24th, making sure that you specify in your reply which of the three activities you and your guest(s) intend to participate in.

Farewell dinner for Tim and Sara Hitchens, International House of Japan, Wednesday, November 23

To mark the end of Tim Hitchens’s term as British Ambassador to Japan (and as C&O President) at the end of this year, we will hold a seated dinner on November 23rd (a national holiday) to express our thanks to Tim and his wife, Sara, for their wholehearted support of the Society over the last four years, and to bid them farewell.

Drinks will be served at 18:30, and dinner will start at 1900. The attendance fee is 8,000 yen (subsidized), and the dress code is jacket and tie.

Early Summer Party, British Ambassador's Residence, Thursday, June 2, 2016 (18:30 - 21:00)

Our annual Early Summer Party will be hosted by C&O President and British Ambassador to Japan Mr Tim Hitchens.

Dress code: Lounge suits
Attendance fees: 10,000 yen for members, 12,500 yen for guests
Payment is required in advance; the Society’s bank account details will be sent to those who apply; those who cancel after the deadline (20th May) will be charged the full attendance fee (13,000 yen) unless their places can be passed on.

If you wish to attend this key event in the Society’s calendar, please apply to Tim Minton (t.minton[at]camford[dot]org) by Friday, 20th May. Please supply the following information:
Your full name in both romaji and kanji (if applicable)
Your university/college
The full name of your guest (in both romaji and kanji) if you intend to bring one; please also state the sex of your guest if it is not completely obvious from his/her name (this information is required for insurance purposes).
In principle only one guest per member is allowed, although this rule is waived in the case of family members.

Our Christmas Party will be held as usual in the Kabayama Room (樺山ルーム).
